According to statistics of the General Department of Customs, in 2017, rice exports of Vietnam reached 5.79 million tons, valued at $ 2.61 billion, up 20.40% in quantity and 21.20% in value compared same period last year. In particular, China is Vietnam's largest importer of rice, accounting for 43% of total Vietnamese rice exports. The rice export to China is good quality rice.
Since 2004, the Chinese side has made more stringent requirements for rice exporters through the Plant Quarantine Protocol to ensure the safety and deterrence of harmful organisms, plant life. Each batch of rice that meets the plant quarantine standard shall be granted a plant quarantine certificate which demonstrates its conformity with the plant quarantine requirements and the determination of the specific production place.
China subsequently amended the Protocol in September 2016, specifically requiring that the exported rice be treated by sterilization and by a State-owned unit.
On 26/09/2016, the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (People's Republic of China)(AQSIQ) signed a decision recognizing the capacity of eight organizations in Vietnam capable of sterilizing rice, in which have Vinacontrol TP. Ho Chi Minh City, a member of the Vinacontrol Group.
