Record Increase In Vietnam Cashew Import

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD), cashew is one of the top commodity groups of agriculture, with export value increasing sharply since the beginning of the year.

Cashew nut export output in the first five months of 2021 reached 216 thousand tons, worth 1.29 billion USD, up 18.3% in volume and 4.9% in value over the same period in 2020. In detail, the US, China, and the Netherlands are the three largest cashew export markets of Vietnam, accounting for 26.5%, 16.7%, and 9.8% market share in total cashew export value, respectively. Besides, France is also a potential export market of Vietnam when Vietnam's cashew nut market share in total French imports increased from 58.70% in Q1,2020 to 63.35% in Q1,2021.

However, the amount of cashew nuts imported into Vietnam is increasing at a record rate. In just the first five months of 2021, Vietnam imported 1.4 million tons of cashews with a value of 2.2 billion USD, up nearly 237% in volume and 273% in value over the same period last year. In detail, Cambodia, Tanzania, and Ivory Coast are the three main cashew nut supply markets for Vietnam.
