Certificate Of Sustainable Forest Management

Forests are important, not only containing 80% of terrestrial biodiversity; where absorbing carbon dioxide reduces the greenhouse effect, but also is a source of wood, and production materials and ensures about 45% of the world's renewable energy. Therefore, the problem of forest preservation is the mission of all mankind. Human consciousness accompanied by proper management will determine the sustainability of forest resources, bringing benefits to the community and the environment. In Vietnam, the government has also issued the National Forest Certification Scheme. Accordingly, from 2020 to 2030, the goal is to build and organize certification for 1 million hectares of protective production plantations for organizations, households, and management boards directly under the protected forests. On October 29, 2020, the Vietnam Forest Certification System (VFCS) was officially recognized by PEFC. 

PEFC is the largest forest certification system in the world and the choice of small forest owners, with more than 300 million hectares across 49 national systems meeting PEFC sustainability standards. Headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland), PEFC is recognized for its role in providing independent assessment, validation, and accreditation of national forest certification systems.

The Vietnam Forest Certification System is built based on the principle of operation and independent decision-making among the parties involved, ensuring compliance with the requirements of the International Forest Certification System. A set of forest management standards (including Sustainable Forest Management Standards; Group Sustainable Forest Management Standards and Chain of Custody Management Standards) are built based on current regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam Administration of Forestry and Forest Certification Program guidelines (PEFC ST 1001: 2010).
